Researching how machines can arrogate information to see and comprehend the world, James Hays is an associate professor for the School of Interactive Computing in the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Hays joined Georgia Tech in the fall of 2015. Previously, he was the Manning Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Brown University. His research interests span computer vision and computer graphics. In particular, his research focuses on using "Internet-scale" data and crowdsourcing to improve scene understanding and allow smarter image synthesis and manipulation. He received his doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
