There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

A pioneering roboticist, Frank Dellaert is a professor in the School of Interactive Computing in the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He researches autonomous robot systems on land, air, and in water, and led the use of several probabilistic methods in both computer vision and robotics. With Dieter Fox and Sebastian Thrun, he introduced the Monte Carlo localization method for estimating and tracking the pose of robots, which is now a standard and popular tool in mobile robotics. He has applied methods from statistical physics and Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling methodologies in a variety of novel settings -- most notably to address the correspondence problem in computer vision. Most recently, he investigated 3D reconstruction in large-scale environments by taking a graph-theoretic view. Dellaert has published more than 150 technical articles, as well as several book chapters. In 2005, he won a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award. He has been awarded research grants by the NSF, DARPA, Naval Research Laboratory, U.S. Army Research Laboratory, Army Research Office, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Intel Corp., Microsoft Corp., Samsung Electronics and others. Frequently called to speak, Dellaert delivered the keynote address at the 2013 British Machine Vision Conference, alongside Professor Andrew Zisserman.
