The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia (USG) is committed to providing a healthy environment for all campus communities throughout the system. Following the mandatory sexual assault training requirement launched last fall for incoming students, Georgia Tech, along with the other USG institutions, is now requiring all faculty and staff to participate in an online educational course, Haven for Faculty & Staff.

This training requirement is intended to enable faculty and staff to better assist students and other community members, including colleagues, impacted by sexual assault, relationship violence, and stalking.

“This is a vital component to a more comprehensive health program designed to raise awareness of sexual assault and misconduct,” said Burns Newsome, director of Compliance Programs. “Our goal is to promote safety, health, and well-being among all of our community members.”

This mandatory one-time training requirement for current Georgia Tech employees — faculty, staff, and student employees — will be administered during the annual compliance campaign that begins March 7 and ends April 8. Failure to complete the online training requirements by April 8 may result in a formal disciplinary notice from the Institute. In addition, access to Georgia Tech’s network may also be revoked. Newly hired faculty and staff will be required to complete this online training module as part of their onboarding process.

As with the annual affirmation of understanding the Ethical Standards and Conflict of Interest Policy, Haven for Faculty & Staff is a mandatory requirement for Georgia Tech employees.

The training takes approximately one hour, but employees do not have to complete the course in one sitting; it can be taken in multiple sittings. Details, including access to the training portal, will be available beginning March 7, at “My Compliance Campaigns” on the TechWorks website.

The training module covers topics that some participants may find distressing or offensive. If you are uncomfortable at any time during the training, stop it and contact Georgia Tech’s Faculty and Staff Assistance Program at 404-894-1225 for additional instruction.
