The Georgia Tech Supply Chain & Logistics Institute (SCL) is pleased to announce that Georgia Tech has elevated it to a new status: Interdisciplinary Research Center (IRC). SCL is one of a handful of successful units that have been given this designation to further enhance interdisciplinary research and educational program development. As an IRC, SCL engages faculty with interests in supply chain and logistics from across all colleges and schools on campus, and will be better positioned to seek large-scale, multi-discipline research contracts. SCL is excited about the ability to better serve organizations by bringing to bear expertise in policy, electronics, computing, business, and analytics under a common umbrella as needed.

Dr. Martin Savelsbergh and Dr. Benoit Montreuil serve as SCL’s co-directors of research and Savelsbergh will continue to serve as leader of global transportation research and Montreuil will serve as leader of Georgia Tech’s new Physical Internet Center. Tim Brown will continue to serve as SCL’s managing director and lead the direction of educational programming.

SCL will continue to maintain strong ties with the Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering, and continue to grow its offerings in public, custom, and online professional education programming. Additionally, SCL will maintain its relationship with its operations in Panama, Costa Rica, Mexico, Singapore, and Savannah. New industry, university, and scientific advisory boards are being established to provide input to the future of SCL as an IRC.

We are also excited to report that SCL sister organization, the Center for Health and Humanitarian Systems, has also been designated as an IRC!
