Next Billion People Online Will Get Odd Versions of the Internet

There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Tech giants are racing to extend internet access to large parts of the developing world. But will people get the digital experience they expect? A new project -- "Cuba Intercambio" by Georgia Tech's Michaelanne Dye, Annie Anton and Amy Bruckman from the School of Interactive Computing -- is helping Cubans freely access information until acces and broadband becomes more widely available.
