Full Summary: The COA NSF ADVANCE Program hosts a panel discussion and workshop on gender and communication issues in an academic setting.

The College of Architecture National Science Foundation ADVANCE Program hosts a panel discussion on the issues and communications challenges women may face in an academic setting, as well as the methods for overcoming them to achieve success.

Panelists include:

  • Beth Mynatt, Director of the GVU Center, Professor and Associate Dean for Strategic Planning and Initiatives in the College of Computing.
  • Larry Jacobs, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering and Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
  • Sunni Newton, graduate student in the School of Psychology.
  • Joyce Weinsheimer, Associate Director of the Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL).
  • Nazanin Bassiri-Gharb, Assistant Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering.

The NSF ADVANCE Program seeks to increase the participation of women in the scientific and engineering workforce through the increased representation of women in academic, scientific and engineering careers. The ADVANCE Program at Georgia Tech is coordinated by the ADVANCE Team, which includes ADVANCE Professors and the Center for the Study of Women, Science and Technology.
