There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

TAPPI will host the Advanced Coatings Symposium, Oct. 4-6, 2016, in Stockholm, Sweden and inviting individuals to present research on printing and functional coatings. Particular areas of interest include novel materials, methods, or applications in the area of coatings for printing, packaging, barrier coatings, smart coatings, water based coatings or coatings for electronic printing.

TAPPI is offering a forum for researchers and coating technologists to present their findings concerning coating fundamentals and leading edge developments relating to paper surface treatment, printing operations & functional coatings.TAPPI’s Advanced Coating Symposium will be held October 4–6, 2016 in Stockholm Sweden at KTH University. This symposium provides attendees and presenters, which include students performing cutting edge research to industry professionals, with expanded learning and networking opportunities. Abstracts are now being accepted for consideration. Accepted abstracts will be invited to produce an extended abstract of 3-4 pages along with a Power Point presentation to be included in the conference proceedings. All abstract and presentations will be peer reviewed.

Suggested Topics:

Advanced understanding of paper requirements (including surface characterization)
  • converting for barrier, packaging, etc. coatings
  • for printing and functional imaging, e.g. printed electronics & mircofluidics
  • calendering/finishing
Advanced understanding of paper & board coating processes and structures
  •  chemistry of coating materials and interactions between the materials
  •  coating structure and functional process properties
  •  mathematical and computational modelling
Sustainability: Advances at the Forefront
  • sustainable components and processes (including energy saving, coating recycling)
  • sustainable products (e.g. bioactive and barrier coating, binder systems)
