There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Summaries

Summary Sentence: Erec Stebbins, Rockefeller University

Full Summary: AbstractMicrobial pathogens display remarkably sophisticated adaptations, often engaging their hosts in intricate biochemical cross talk. The large repertoire of virulence factors from pathogens modulate multiple pathways in eukaryotic cells from cytoskeletal structure, cell cycle progression, programmed cell death, endocytic trafficking, signal transduction, and more. Structural work with these virulence factors is illuminating many aspects of the host-pathogen interaction and providing new tools for understanding a variety of basic eukaryotic cellular processes. Finally, the growing library of such structures is uncovering general paradigms in the mechanisms by which pathogenic organisms manipulate the host.
