The Yaybahar is a semi-finalist for the 2016 Margaret Guthman Musical Instrument Competition. The contest, hosted by the Georgia Institute of Technology, showcases the best new ideas in design, engineering and musicianship. The vibrations from the strings of the Yaybahar are transmitted via the coiled springs to the frame drums. These vibrations are turned into sound by the membranes, which echo back and forth on the coiled springs. It has fretted strings, coiled springs and drum skins.
