Request for MOOC Proposal and Evaluation Criteria
Georgia Tech Professional Education & Center for 21st Century Universities
November 2015
Georgia Tech is entering its fourth year of MOOC development, delivery and assessment and it's first RFP where edX is a development option. Over the three years, our strategy has matured and we have reached a number of milestones that have further enhanced Georgia Tech’s MOOC program:
- Developed and produced 26 MOOC courses offered more than 60 times on Coursera with 24 faculty representing nearly all colleges on campus
- Flipped 10 classrooms on the Georgia Tech campus using the Coursera platform
- Developed and produced 2 specializations on Coursera
- Developed and produced 1 sequences on Coursera
- Surpassed 1M enrollments on Coursera
- Launch the country’s first massive open online degree with OMS CS on Udacity, and developed and launched 7 non-credit graduate level computer science courses from OMS CS on Udacity
These initiatives have afforded a positive impact on the classroom teaching and learning experiences of traditional and non-traditional students at Georgia Tech.
MOOC Proposal Evaluation Criteria:
Meeting the following criteria will increase the chance of approval of your MOOC submission. The MOOC faculty review committee will evaluate and review the proposal(s) against this criteria.
- What is the global market potential of the MOOC? Who will take this MOOC? (cite professional organizations, companies, job titles, industries, sectors, degrees, education level, and all other demographics that you know are relevant, valuable markets for the proposed subject matter)
- Does the MOOC have the ability to benefit learners either professionally or personally? (career, income, promotion, quality of life, skill set, employability, job force readiness, improved college application pool, etc.)
- Does the MOOC directly benefit Georgia Tech? List ways that you think it benefits Georgia Tech or Georgia Tech learners.
- Does the proposal have the potential to create a Specialization? A Specialization may be presented either as a sequence of courses that build upon each culminating with a capstone project or a complimentary group of courses that can be taken in any order.
- Will the MOOC be used to impact your research or any research at Georgia Tech?
- Does the proposed instructor have prior experience teaching online/hybrid courses and/or using educational technology such as learning management systems, lecture capture, online forums or online pedagogy?
