On November 9th, 60 International Baccalaureate students from Campbell High School’s foreign language department visited the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Tech. The frigid downpour and grey sky were no match for the curious and enthusiastic spirits of the large number of Spanish and French speaking students. Their experience included an orientation, a campus tour, classroom visits, lunch, and a concluding Q&A session.

The students were inspired by the benefits that Georgia Tech offers, and many students reported an appreciation for an academic curriculum that was not only diverse, but relevant and useful. The highlight for students was the chance to sit in on Spanish and French classes. “I enjoyed attending the classroom because it was encouraging to see an environment that was very similar to our interactive IB classes and the students made the strengths of the language programs very clear,” said one student. The visiting students also got to hear current Georgia Tech students share their personal experiences with both language study and study abroad programs. Several students reported having their eyes opened to liberal arts at Georgia Tech, and specifically the opportunities provided by the School of Modern Languages. This new knowledge coupled with the obvious passion and language capabilities of current Tech students has encouraged many Campbell students to give Tech a closer look.
