Created in 2010 by the French Consulate General and the Georgia Institute of Technology, “France-Atlanta: Together towards Innovation” is a series of events centered on innovation and designed to foster cooperation between France and the U.S. Southeast in the scientific,business, cultural, and humanitarian domains.
It is presented under the high auspices of the Ambassador of France to the United States, the Governor of Georgia, and the Mayor of Atlanta, with the support of all of the French and French-American associations in Atlanta.
Since its inception, this initiative has escalated into an annual celebration of French-American cooperation and innovation. Thanks to the high caliber programs, events, and workshops that have been scheduled each year, it has significantly increased the visibility of French-American relations in the U.S. Southeast.
Cooperation & exchange
Attracting each year many high profile participants and experts in the field, France-Atlanta seeks to identify areas of synergy and expertise that will lead to concrete results. Many transatlantic collaborations have resulted from this ambitious endeavor, including the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Paris airports and region and the City of Atlanta to develop the two airport zones, the structured scientific cooperation between Georgia Tech and CNRS on graphene, the creation of an International Associated Laboratory between Emory’s Winship Cancer Institute and INSERM, the strengthening of the sister-city relationship between Atlanta and Toulouse, and the artistic residencies of internationally recognized artists Pierre Gonnord, Mohamed Bourrouissa and Pierre Rigal.
Each year, more than 3,500 attendees from France, Atlanta, and beyond come and enjoy the rich and diverse program offered. Distinguished past participants include Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Ambassador of France to the United States François Delattre, 2007 Nobel Prize of Physics, Albert Fert, and Cannes Film Festival laureate Mahamat Saleh-Haroun (Jury Prize, 2010; Vulcan Prize, 2013), to name a few.
In 2014, France-Atlanta had more than 40 local and international partners.
