Festivals, Events, and More in Atlanta during Fall Break

Students who are staying on campus for the weekend have plenty of ways to enjoy fall break in the city.

For students staying in town for fall break, there are plenty of free and wallet-friendly events around Atlanta this weekend. It’s the season of fall festivals, many of which coincide with Georgia Tech’s fall break.

Check out some of these events below to celebrate the break from classes and kick-off the fall season.

  • The Ferst Center for the Arts hosts Streb:Forces, a high-thrills show that merges acrobatics, dance, and machinery, on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. and  Friday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m. On Saturday, NPR RadioLab's Jad Abumrad will be at the Ferst Center at 8 p.m. Student tickets to all shows are $10 and can be purchased at the Ferst Center Box Office weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Georgia Tech Women's Volleyball hosts Louisville on Friday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at the O'Keefe Gym. The team then hosts Notre Dame on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. 
  • Georgia Tech Softball hosts Chipola on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. at Mewborn Field.
  • Art on the Atlanta BeltLine is a free exhibit displayed along the BeltLine through November. Now the largest temporary public art exhibition in the South, this event showcases four miles of visual and performing art. On Oct. 10, 11, and 16, Art on the Atlanta BeltLine will host live performers to accompany the stationary art display. View the schedule of events here.
  • The 45th Atlanta Pride Festival is this weekend. Throughout the weekend the festival will host parades, performances, and events downtown. For more information about the parades and details about participation, visit www.atlantapride.org/pride/parade.
  • This weekend East Point and Summerhill are sponsoring festivals with performers, live music, vendors, food, and more.

If you’re willing to venture outside of the city, then check out some of these fall festivals:

  • Located in Perry, Georgia, the Georgia National Fair is an 11-day event. It’s open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Oct. 9 – 18. Tickets are $9 per person if purchased online, $10 at the gate, and $8 on Tuesday. The fair has a variety of rides, vendors, events, and concerts, so be sure to check the schedule for the day you plan to go: www.georgianationalfair.com.
  • A collaboration event between the City of Marietta and the Cobb Museum of Art brings Chalktoberfest to Marietta Square. The event is free and is held Oct. 10 – 11. There will be live music, food, and over 50 professional artists chalking the streets of Marietta.
  • The Georgia Apple Festival is held in Ellijay, Georgia, Oct. 10 – 11 and Oct. 17 – 18. Now in its 44th year, the festival has expanded to host over 300 vendors, a parade, and an antique car show. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the festival. While you’re visiting The Apple Capital of Georgia, be sure to stop by one of the many apple orchards in the area and pick a few to take home!
