Suicide is the second leading cause of death on college campuses, and one group of Tech students is doing its part to bring awareness to this issue.

The Kappa Sigma fraternity will host its second annual Kick the Stigma games on Saturday, Sept. 26, to raise awareness for suicide and mental health issues and to fundraise for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The event will let teams of students, faculty, and staff compete in bubble soccer and kickball tournaments at the Stamps Recreation Fields and Burger Bowl. John Stein, vice president of Student Life and dean of students, will serve as honorary commissioner for the day’s events.

Campus and external will also be on site at the event to provide information to students about resources and involvement opportunities.

The goal is to help students in need and to equip others with the tools to provide support if someone is struggling with mental health issues, and to couple these awareness efforts with a stress-relieving day of games. Members of the Tech Kappa Sigma chapter feel this issue on a personal level, having had a brother take his life in 2013.

Kick the Stigma takes place Saturday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is $20 per person or $200 for a group of 10 and includes a free T-shirt, entry for the tournament, and food and drink. Participants can sign up as a group or individuals.

All proceeds benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Donations are also being accepted. Learn more and sign up at www.kappasigmagames.com.
