Georgia Tech OIT is aware of issues connecting to Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) official servers from several campus networks. Extensive testing on Georgia Tech’s network shows that the issue exists outside of Georgia Tech’s network, possibly with Steam’s network.

OIT has contacted Steam’s support team to attempt to resolve the issue, but was referred to CS:GO forums for help instead. Unfortunately, Georgia Tech cannot troubleshoot the issue further without Steam’s assistance.

If you are experiencing issues playing CS:GO on campus, we recommend contacting Steam support and encouraging them to work with Georgia Tech on resolving this issue. In the meantime, please try the workarounds below.

Workarounds

The issue with servers does not seem to occur when users are connected to the Georgia Tech VPN. (OIT believes this may be due to the fact that the VPN uses a different IP address space than the ResNet and GTwifi networks.) To install the VPN, go tohttps://anyc.vpn.gatech.edu, login with your Georgia Tech credentials, then follow the instructions. Then connect to the VPN before launching Steam when you play CS:GO.

Several users report that Steam works best through the Georgia Tech VPN when launched in TCP mode. You can find instructions on how to do this on Steam's support page.

Users also report that they are able to connect to official CS:GO servers when connected to GTother on LAWN. (GTother uses an address space similar to the Georgia Tech VPN.) To connect to GTother, follow the instructions athttp://lawn.gatech.edu/help/gtother/.
