ABSTRACT:
Mr. Bushnell will discuss the increasingly dire and ever nearer term implications of Global Warming and Peak Oil and then considers the spectrum of "Green Ways Forward" to replace Fossil Carbon Energy Sources. Going forward there are 4 approaches with the capacity to, in the nearer term, replace both petroleum for transportation and coal/natural gas for base load etc. These approaches require research but are both feasible and affordable. Mr. Bushnell will also consider the "frontiers of the responsibly imaginable" in energetics going forward, "Wild Card" approaches which proffer revolutionary possibilities. Energetics issues considered include Generation, Storage, Conservation and Transmission. Concluding remarks will focus on a brief discussion of "Second Law Warming", which will follow Atmospheric Warming and constrains the solution options for Atmospheric Warming.
BIOSKETCH:
Mr. Bushnell is responsible for Technical Oversight and Advanced Program formulation for a major NASA Research Center with technical emphasis in the areas of Atmospheric Sciences and Structures, Materials, Acoustics, Flight Electronics/Control/Software, Instruments, Aerodynamics, Aerothermodynamics, Hypersonic Airbreathing Propulsion, Computational Sciences and Systems Optimization for Aeronautics, Spacecraft, Exploration and Space Access. During his 44 years of experience Mr. Bushnell has held a wide range of key aerospace positions. He has authored 252 publications/major presentations and 310 invited lectures/seminars. He holds a B.S. in M.E. degree from the University of Connecticut with Highest Honors, Distinction, University Scholar (1963), M.S. degree in M.E. from the University of Virginia (1967).U.S. Govt.
