There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

Full Summary: Optimization using the SAS System

TITLE: Optimization using the SAS system

SPEAKER: Manoj Chair

ABSTRACT:

We will introduce optimization functionality available in the SAS system through the modeling language SAS procedure OPTMODEL. Using illustrative examples, we will introduce the algebraic modeling features of OPTMODEL as well as the wide array of powerful new solvers for linear, mixed integer linear and non linear programming that it has direct access to. We will also demonstrate that OPTMODEL provides an intuitive high level programming environment which, when combined with the solvers, can be used to implement application specific customized algorithms and heuristics.

Speaker Bio:

Manoj Chari is Director of the Operations Research R&D department at SAS Institute. Before joining SAS in 2003, he was a member of the Mathematics faculty at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, where he spent over a decade conducting research and teaching in combinatorics and operations research. He has a Ph.D. in Operations Research from UNC Chapel Hill and was a postdoctoral fellow in Combinatorics and Optimization at the University of Waterloo, Canada. He has also held visiting positions at the Technical University of Berlin and the Indian Institute of Science.
