Emerging Voices is an annual portfolio based competition established by Atlanta's Young Architects Forum (YAF: ATL) and the AIA Atlanta Chapter, highlighting exemplary work of young architects and designers in Atlanta today. Projects of all types, theoretical or real, built or unbuilt, are welcome.
On display are installations by the winners of the AIA Atlanta-YAF architectural portfolio competition; Houser Walker Architecture, Ai3, and Ed Akins II, Senior Lecturer at the Georgia Tech College of Architecture.
Emerging Voices has a mission to recognize works of high quality at the early stages of one's career and provide a public forum for its exhibition. The competition rewards emerging professionals who are striving to practice their craft and considering the peculiarities of a specific geographic environment: Atlanta.
Emerging Voices has established a record of accomplishment among architects in Atlanta as the singular, local competition that identifies a bright new spot on the metropolitan design scene.

About Ed Akins II
Edwin E. Akins II, AIA, LEED AP is a Project Designer with Smith Dalia Architects in Atlanta. He is also a Design Instructor at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Implementation Director for the Marietta Street Artery Association (Upper Westside LCI).
Akins states that his view of architecture, through experience and practice, has been an evolution of the simple idea that what remains after you build is just as important as, if not more important than, what you build. He goes on to say that whether you are considering public space, indoor volumes, construction waste, energy usage, or any of the varied topics upon which architects have influence and control, it is this realm, the
