Dan Prosser, a PhD student in AE studying with Prof. Marilyn Smith, has been awarded a prestigious fellowship as part of the Achievement Rewards for Academic Scientists (ARCS) program. 

The ARCS Scholars Award, funded by the ARCS Foundation (https://www.arcsfoundation.org) recognizes outstanding doctoral students who have a record of past acheivement and who show exceptional promise of making a significant contribution to the worldwide advancement of science and technology.  This scholarship is based not only on academic excellence, but also what students are attempting to achieve in their research, as well as their contributions to date.

Dan's research, the aerodynamnic-dynamic interaction of bluff bodies, has application not only in Aerospace Engineering (such as helicopter slung loads and airdrops), but also in Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering (buildings, bridges, power lines, etc.). 

To date, he has published one journal paper in Physics Letters A, and has another under review in Computer and Fluids.  His efforts have advanced current computational abilities of both static and dynamic bluff bodies, and his results have helped to guide or been used to correlate with experiments in both the US and internationally. 

His selection was made after consideration of candidates across all engineering and science discipines.
