Last week, the Department of Homeland Security announced that Nepali students would be eligible for temporary protected status and special student relief due to the recent 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25th, 2015.
Nepali students may now apply for temporary protected status (TPS) and special student relief (SSR) through the Department of Homeland Security. Temporary protected status allows for individuals to remain in the U.S. and gives the ability to apply for an EAD card (work authorization) based upon TPS. The application period ranges from June 24, 2015 through December 21, 2015.
Students who are interested in TPS should consult the USCIS Immigration Relief Measures for Nepali Nationals website for the most current information. OIE is not able to assist students in their applications, but can provide a list of qualified immigration attorneys who can help with the process. Please email info@oie.gatech.edu to get the list.
