Cloud computing: a hands-on approach was selected as a notable book in computing during 2014 by Computing Reviews, published by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The book was written by Vijay K. Madisetti and Arshdeep Bahga–a professor and research engineer, respectively–with the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).

Computing Reviews’ 19th Annual Best of Computing list consists of book and article nominations from reviewers, Computing Reviews’ category editors, editors-in-chief of journals, and computer scientists in both industry and academia. To view the list, visit http://www.computingreviews.com/recommend/bestof/notableitems.cfm?bestYear=2014.

Released in late December 2013, Cloud computing: a hands-on approach is written as a textbook on cloud computing for educational programs at colleges and universities, and also for cloud service providers who may be interested in offering a broader perspective of cloud computing to accompany their own customer and developer training programs. The book covers the basic technologies that form the foundations of cloud computing, the programming aspects of cloud computing with a view toward rapid prototyping complex applications, and specialized aspects of cloud computing such as cloud application benchmarking, multimedia cloud applications, cloud security, and big data analytics. To date, 36 universities have adopted or are evaluating the book, and an Asian edition was recently released.
