Campus Closed Friday for Independence Day Holiday

On Friday, July 3, the Institute will close in observance of Independence Day, July 4.

Luckily, America is not choosy about who celebrates her birthday, so regardless of your country of origin, take some time to enjoy the fun, festivities, and fireworks that will be plentiful around the city from now through the weekend. 

Wednesday, July 1:
Thursday, July 2:
Friday, July 3:
  • Braves vs. Phillies: Don your intergalactic best for Star Wars Night at Turner Field, which will culminate with a fireworks show.
Saturday, July 4:
  • Peachtree Road Race: The world’s largest 10K takes place close to campus, finishing on 10th Street at Piedmont Park. Find a place along the route to cheer on the droves of runners.
  • Braves vs. Phillies: What better way to celebrate America than with its national pastime? Another matchup with the Phillies, but this time with patriotic post-game fireworks.
  • Decatur Square: Plenty of options for eating, shopping and walking around the square prior to a fireworks show — and all accessible by MARTA. 
  • Lenox Square Mall: Claiming to be the Southeast’s largest 4th of July celebration, festivities begin at 6 p.m., with fireworks beginning around 9:40.
  • Centennial Olympic Park: Park gates open at 6 p.m., with fireworks scheduled to start around 9 p.m. You may even be able to find a spot on campus for a view of this show.

Operations Changes

The July 3 holiday will result in the following changes in operation on campus:

Transit

Tech Trolleys, Stingers, Emory Shuttle, and Weekend Grocery Shuttle will not operate on Friday, July 3, or Saturday July 4. These bus services will resume their regular, summer service-level schedules on Sunday, July 5.

Stingerette Nighttime will end service at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 2. It will resume service at 6 p.m. Saturday, July 4.  

Stamps Health Services

Closed July 3.

Campus Recreation Center

July 3 – Open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Closed July 4.

Dining
  • Woody's: July 4–5 — 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Ferst Place: Closing at 1:30 p.m. July 2; Closed July 3–5
  • North Avenue Dining: July 4–5 — 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Chick-fil-A: Closing at 3 p.m. July 2; Closed July 3–5
  • Subway: Closing at 2:30 p.m. July 2; Closed July 3–5
