Parisa Pooyan’s poster, “Cellulose-Based Nanocomposites as a Scaffold in Cardiovascular Tissue Engineering,” won top recognition at the recent Biological Materials Science Conference in Orlando, Florida. Ms. Pooyan is expected to earn her doctoral degree in materials science in December of this year. Professors Cyrus Aidun and Hamid Garmestani are her co-advisors. Her work won First Place Student Poster in Biological Materials Science Symposium as well as Best of 2012 TMS Show in All Graduate Materials Divisions. The work was published as “Mechanical Behavior of a Cellulose-Reinforced Scaffold in Vascular Tissue Engineering", by Parisa Pooyan (ME, MSE), Prof. Rina Tannenbaum (MSE), Prof. Hamid Garmestani (MSE), in Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, Volume 7, March 2012, Pages 50-59.
