SG MOCAThe Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) announces a partnership with Georgia Tech to present Georgia Tech’s contemporary chamber music ensemble in-residence, Sonic Generator, featuring music by Philip Glass in a free performance at MOCA GA on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. The event will begin at 7:30 PM, and will be held in MOCA GA’s newly renovated lower level Education/Research Center Gallery at 75 Bennett Street, Atlanta, GA 30309.
ABOUT THE EVENT
The evening will begin with complimentary wine at 7:30 pm. Sonic Generator will begin their performance at 8:00 pm. The concert showcases innovative contemporary music by some of the most innovative American composers engaged with new technology, focusing on the ways that technology can extend and transform the timbres and textures of acoustic instruments. Attendees can enjoy viewing artwork from the MOCA GA permanent collection while listening to an interesting range of music, including Like Sweet Bells Jangled, where percussionist and composer Nathan Davis explores a classic audio processing technique, called ring modulation, to transform live instruments into otherworldly timbres. Daniel Trueman’s Nostalgic Synchronic etudes for prepared digital piano similarly transform and extend the tunings and timbres of a piano though a series of digital interventions. In September Canons, Ingram Marshall uses digital delay lines to turn a solo violin into a complex orchestra-like texture. The program is rounded out by Marcos Balter’s delete/control/option, a musing on the boundaries between voluntary and involuntary actions inspired by computing syntax; and Philip Glass’s classic Music in Similar Motion, a seminal work of American minimalism.

ABOUT SONIC GENERATOR
Sonic Generator, Georgia Tech’s contemporary chamber music ensemble-in-residence, explores the ways in which technology can transform how we create, perform and listen to music. The ensemble, comprised of some of the top classical musicians in Atlanta, works closely with Georgia Tech students and faculty in the School of Music and elsewhere on campus to present concerts that bring cutting-edge technologies to the world of contemporary classical music. Sonic Generator is sponsored by the GVU Center, the Center for Music Technology, the School of Music, and the College of Architecture.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) collects and archives significant, contemporary works by the artists of the state of Georgia. To place its artists in a broader context, the Museum's exhibitions include Georgia artists and artists from around the world. Travel almost to the bottom of Bennett Street and you will see the MOCA GA Art Complex building on your right. Free parking is available and guests should enter through the building's central canopy and walk down stairs to the event space. For handicap accessible parking and entrance, please drive to the rear of the building to the reserved parking spaces.
