Full Summary: In addition to gaining experience and exposure to cutting edge planning and health work nationally, the intern will have the opportunity to engage with partners, funders, and other experts in the field. He or she will also have the chance to see how some best practices for health and planning are being applied in the DC metro area.

The American Planning Association’s Planning and Community Health Center is hiring an intern for Summer 2015. This is a full-time, paid internship for 10-12 weeks, dependent on the candidate’s schedule. 

In addition to gaining experience and exposure to cutting edge planning and health work nationally, the intern will have the opportunity to engage with partners, funders, and other experts in the field. He or she will also have the chance to see how some best practices for health and planning are being applied in the DC metro area.

We seek someone with a demonstrated interest in several of the following areas:
• Climate Change and Health
• Community Engagement and Outreach
• Food Systems Planning
• GIS
• Green Infrastructure
• Health Impact Assessment
• Health in all Policies
• Monitoring and Evaluation
• Application of health data in planning 

Qualifications:
• Graduate-level education in City, Urban, or Regional Planning
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Self-starter, adaptable, and time management skills

The preference is for a current master’s level student but applications from Spring 2015 graduates will be accepted.

o A demonstrated interest and knowledge in planning and community health
o Thoughts and ideas for advancing the field of health and planning
o Coursework or experience related to public health, planning, and the topics listed in the job advertisement
