Cathy Y. Liu’s research interests lie at the intersection of urban housing market and labor market, especially as pertinent to the socioeconomic mobility of minorities and immigrants. She addresses urban policy and community development issues in the context of changing urban spatial form, demographic dynamics and economic processes. Her recent works examine how residential location and segregation plays out in immigrants’ employment outcomes and travel patterns, as well as their job quality. Other topics include the creative economy and ethnic entrepreneurship. She is also interested in urban development and migration issues in the international context.
