Georgia Institute of Technology researcher Ajit Yoganathan was recognized recently in his native country’s press for a rare honor.

The Sunday Times of Sri Lanka featured Yoganathan, Regents’ Professor in the Wallace H. Coulter Distinguished Department of Biomedical Engineering, as only the second person from his country to be elected to the National Academy of Engineers (NAE), “one of the highest professional honours accorded an engineer in the United States,” according to the Times story entitled, “New honour for Lankan scientist."

“I am extremely proud of the translational impact my research has had on the field,” Yoganathan told the newspaper.

Yoganathan, who is the Wallace H. Coulter Distinguished Chair and holds a joint appointment in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, joins H. Kumar Wickramasinghe (a professor of electrical engineering and computer sciences and biomedical engineering at the University of California-Irvine) as the only Sri Lankans elected to the NAE so far.
