There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Functionally the new site is identical to the old one. webteam@gatech.edu

The interface between graphene and various dielectric materials presents a rich playground for exploring nanoscale control of low dimensional electronic behavior and rational design of new functionalities. For example, integrating graphene with ferroelectrics allows one to explore graphene-based nanoelectronics such as high frequency analog devices and nonvolatile memories. One can also utilize graphene as a sensitive tool to probe the properties of ferroelectric thin films and nanostructures, where conventional electrical characterization becomes challenging.
In this talk, I will discuss our recent studies of the prototype graphene-ferroelectric hybrid devices. We find that the competition between the ferroelectric polarization and interfacial screening charge dynamics has a profound effect on the nonvolatile, ferroelectric field effect control of graphene. The modulation of graphene also leads to interesting insights in the properties of epitaxial ferroelectric thin films of Pb(Zr,Ti)3 and (Ba,Sr)TiO3, including the built-in polarization asymmetry and domain formation. Our work reveals the important roles of the dielectric properties and interface chemistry of the ferroelectric gate in limiting the performance of these hybrid devices.
