Ambassador SaitoOn Friday, March 6th, a cohort of students and faculty attended a dinner at the Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Atlanta. This event was coordinated by the Atlanta Council on International Relations and the Consulte General of Japan in Atlanta. The guest of honor for the evening was Ambassador Yasuo Saito, the former Japanese Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, France, and the Russian Federation. Ambassador Saito also served as the Consul General of Atlanta in the late 1990's. He was accompanied by a delegration from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both the Ambassador and Consul General Sunaga spoke on the importance of the diplomatic ties and cultural exchange between the United States and Japan. Following brief introductions from the Ambassador, his delegation, the Consul General, and Dr. Robert Kennedy - Associate Chair of the Nunn School and President of the Atlanta Council on International Relations - guests proceeded to dine and mingle for the remainder of the evening. The consular staff provided all students with resources on academic exchange and scholarship opportunities through the Government of Japan. Consul General Sunaga remarked that this was the first occasion in which American students had visited the Residence of the Consul General and further indicated his desire to further such a partnership between Nunn School students and the Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta.
