Chris Jones and Sankar Nair, faculty members in the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, have been named the Sigma Xi Best Faculty Paper Award winners for 2014.
The annual Georgia Tech award recognizes a paper titled “Interfacial Microfluidic Processing of Metal-Organic Framework Hollow Fiber Membranes,” published July 4 by the journal Science.
The group developed a microfluidic technique for fabricating a new class of metal-organic framework (MOF) membranes inside hollow polymer fibers that are just a few hundred microns in diameter. The process is believed to be the first to grow MOF membranes inside hollow fibers and potentially could reduce the amount of energy needed for large-scale chemical separations.
“Faculty members throughout Georgia Tech produced hundreds of high-quality, high-impact papers in 2014, so I am especially proud that Chris’ and Sankar’s work was named the Sigma Xi Best Faculty Paper,” said David Sholl, chair of the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering.
Jones and Nair will be honored at Sigma Xi awards dinner on April 15.
