The seventh annual Guthman Musical Instrument, hosted by the Georgia Tech School of Music and the Center for Music Technology, begins today. The competition, which began in 2009 as a keyboard competition founded by the late Richard Guthman in honor of his wife Margaret, brings musicians and inventors from all over the world to compete for the $10K prize. The competition's intent is to find the world’s best new ideas in musical instrument design, engineering and musicianship.
The competition begins today, Thursday, Feb. 19 and continues Friday, Feb. 20 at the Klaus Advanced Computing Building on campus. It culminates with the final performances which will be held Friday from 7:00 – 9:00 pm and are free and open to the public. The finals will also be live streamed.
