There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Greg Hendler, a master’s student in music technology, plays his team’s instrument the “VCG.” The VCG, which looks like a guitar but incorporates the reed design found in oboes and other woodwind instruments, won first places at the inaugural Guthman Musical Instrument Student Design Challenge. To play it, a musician breathes into a tube attached to the instrument’s body and runs his fingers along ribbon sensors placed along the guitar neck.
