The Home Depot Inc. will open its first university-based research and development center in the heart of engineering powerhouse Georgia Tech.

The move is part talent-recruitment strategy, and part innovation lab, where Home Depot technologists and Georgia Tech students will work on next-generation products and services that eventually wind their way into the Fortune 100 retailer’s stores, warehouses and supply chain networks.
