There is now a CONTENT FREEZE for Mercury while we switch to a new platform. It began on Friday, March 10 at 6pm and will end on Wednesday, March 15 at noon. No new content can be created during this time, but all material in the system as of the beginning of the freeze will be migrated to the new platform, including users and groups. Verizon Wireless is teaming up with Georgia Tech on a multi-year research partnership to tap into the engineering powerhouse's talent pool.
The deal will include hardware and software research in several emerging technologies including wearables, the "connected car" and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies.
Wireless carriers are looking to diversify into new markets in which to sell data and services as the smartphone industry matures. One significant are is the Internet of Things — an emerging technology that is transforming thermostats, locks, bulbs and refrigerators into "smart devices," able to transmit data to smartphones and even amongst themselves.
