Georgia Tech is asking undergraduate students to speak up about their time at Tech by participating in a campuswide survey.

The Student Government Association (SGA), with support from Institute Communications and other campus groups, is spearheading the Student Experience Survey. It was previously conducted in 2009 and is designed to evaluate all aspects of a student’s experience at Georgia Tech, including academic, social, and extracurricular facets.

"We worked on the survey this year as a way to better understand and communicate the unique experiences of all Georgia Tech undergraduates," said Dillon Roseen, undergraduate SGA president. "The data will be shared with top campus leadership and help us advocate on behalf of student needs."

The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete and asks students a range of questions about life at Tech, including how they rate things such as sport opportunities, study abroad offerings, the variety of student clubs and organizations, campus diversity, and mental health and wellness resources. Other factors such as interaction among students, social opportunities, and student-faculty interaction are also included in the survey.

"I would highly encourage other students to take the survey as it gives valuable feedback about our experiences at Tech," said Keri Hannukaien, a chemical and biomolecular engineering major who completed the survey.

Though a login is recorded to keep participants from completing the survey more than once, all responses are separated from the participant so submissions and feedback remain anonymous.

Since the survey was last fielded in Spring 2009, the undergraduate student body has grown from around 12,000 students to 13,600 enrolled this semester. Several student support areas have restructured the way they provide resources to students, including the Office of the Provost, which oversees vital student support areas such as Undergraduate Education, the Center for Academic Success, the Center for Academic Enrichment, and the Center for Career Discovery and Development.

"Since the survey was last distributed in 2009, we will be able to see the improvements that have been made on campus and identify areas that still need attention," Roseen said.

All undergraduates have received email invitations to complete the survey, which closes Feb. 19. The survey can also be accessed at www.gatech.edu/surveys/student-experience
