Dr. Khapaeva a Professor of Russian in the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Tech was invited to the prestigious French school for graduate studies, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in January 2014. She presented in a seminar led by Professor Laurent Thevenot, a highly regarded and distinguished French sociologist.

Khapaeva's presentation outlined 'Gothic Putin's Russia' and the rejection of European humanism in Putin's regime and its effects on the issues surrounding Crimea and Ukraine. Khapaeva also published an article explaining this notion, in Liberation Monde.
