After 11 years at Georgia Tech, Vice President for Student Affairs William Schafer has announced that he will leave the Atlanta campus to take a position as West Virginia University's new vice president of student life.

“I’d like to thank Bill for his years of service to Georgia Tech,” President G.P. “Bud” Peterson said. “During his 11 years here, he has continuously strived to enhance the student experience. We wish him continued success in Morgantown.”

“I am thankful for President Peterson and all the extraordinary professionals in the Division of Student Affairs for the opportunity and privilege to work with them,” Schafer said. “This is a special place with very special students and I will carry many fond memories of my years at Tech with me. I will be looking forward to hearing great things about Tech in the coming years.”

Schafer will continue in his current role until February 16; his new appointment is effective March 1. Peterson named John Stein, associate vice president and dean of students, as the division’s interim vice president.

“John is a tireless advocate for students on campus,” he said. “I am grateful for his willingness to take on these additional responsibilities during this period of transition.”
