Need health insurance for your Georgia Tech student? Look no further than the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGA) Student Blue plan. Spring/Summer enrollment is open now until January 30, 2015. The coverage dates are January 1, 2015, through July 31, 2015. It is important to note that all Georgia Tech students (and dependents) who are eligible and want to continue their voluntary coverage for the next policy year must re-enroll for fall 2015 – the coverage does not automatically roll over since coverage is voluntary.

To enroll in the voluntary health insurance policy, go to www.studentbluega.com, click voluntary, and then click enroll and fill out the information. Students do have the option to add spouse and/or child(ren) to the Georgia Tech Student Health Insurance plan.

This plan offers the peace of mind that comes with the BCBSGA brand and worldwide provider network. The plan provides significant benefit enhancements at an extremely affordable cost.

The student health insurance plan includes, but is not limited to, the following benefit enhancements:

    • Unlimited lifetime maximum
    • Unlimited pharmacy maximum
    • Preventive care fully covered, as per healthcare reform requirements (not covered last year)
    • $10-copay routine eye exam  - this was not covered under Pearce & Pearce Insurance from three years ago

Also, please note that the University System of Georgia requires some students to purchase health insurance (this is the Mandatory Plan listed on the Student Blue Insurance website). Click here <http://www.studentbluega.com/gatech/docs/bor.pdf> to review who is listed under the Mandatory Plan.

Parents may find that Student Blue provides a better value than the current coverage they have for their student. The Atlanta area is in-network for the Student Blue plan but may be considered out-of-network for some current plans. People should talk to their current insurer and weigh the pros and cons carefully when deciding which insurance coverage to purchase.

Georgia Tech and BCBSGA created a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document for fall semester, which can be accessed at http://www.studentbluega.com/gatech/docs/Georgia%20Tech%20FAQ.pdf
