In her recent opinion piece for the AJC, city and regional planning alumna Tameka Wimberley describes MARTA’s newly proposed light-rail alignment that would connect MARTA’s Lindberg Station and the Avondale station via the Emory/Clifton Corridor. She states that the projected ridership for this light-rail line is well over 24,000 riders per day, taking into consideration the major campuses and businesses along the proposed rail: the CDC, Emory University, and the Atlanta Veterans Affairs Hospital are all situated along the route. Wimberley, who is MARTA’s senior regional planner and project manager of the Clifton transit project, encourages public opinion on the plan. “At this point, no one has all the answers.” She writes. “MARTA is still gathering information and working with supporters and critics of the project. What we know for certain, however, is that this project will be successful only if it has widespread community support. Regardless of your opinion on the Clifton Corridor initiative, MARTA wants to hear from you.”
