A man suspected in two sexual battery incidents on Tech’s campus, related to the Clery Act Safety Alert issued Dec. 8, was arrested yesterday by the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD).

John Perry Smith, 43, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery. He is accused of committing the two acts on Monday, Dec. 8, on Tech’s campus. The first incident, which was not reported until after the Clery Alert for the second incident, took place around 5:38 p.m. on Techwood Drive between 3rd and 4th streets. The second occurred a few minutes later at approximately 5:44 p.m. in a parking lot behind Brittain Dining Hall.

Tech police captured video of Smith and his vehicle that aided in making the arrest. He was booked into Fulton County Jail and awaits a bond hearing.

"We want to thank the community for the numerous tips they sent that made this arrest possible," said Rob Connolly, interim chief of GTPD.

Police remind students, faculty, and staff to be vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity they see on or near campus. GTPD can be reached at 404-894-2500. Crime tips can also be submitted through the free Rave Guardian app or at crimetips@police.gatech.edu.
