Georgia Tech Professor Spyros Reveliotis has been named a 2015 Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (IEEE) for his extraordinary accomplishments in the field of discrete event systems for resource allocation.

 “This elevation for Spyros to IEEE Fellow is a well-deserved recognition and a testament to his outstanding contributions in the field.” said Jane Ammons, Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering School Chair. “Professor Reveliotis is a great example of someone who applies mathematical modeling to the automated production environment.”

Reveliotis' research interests are in discrete event systems theory and its applications, especially in the control of flexibly automated production and workflow management systems. A significant part of his past and ongoing research addresses problems related to the structural analysis and the supervisory control of flexibly automated production and workflow management systems, and the development of effective scheduling policies for these environments.

The IEEE is the world's largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. Through its 400,000 members in 160 countries, the IEEE is a leading authority on a wide range of areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics. The IEEE Board of Directors awards the rank of Fellow to a person with an outstanding record of accomplishment in any of the IEEE fields.

Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients for elevation to IEEE Fellow.  Less than 0.1% of voting members are selected annually for this member grade elevation.
