The annual Southern Economic Association conference is taking place in
Atlanta from November 22 till 24 and a number of SOE faculty are
presenting their research. A number of our faculty are also serving as
session chairs and paper discussants.
Tibor Besedes will present two papers, "Antidumping and the Death of
Trade" and "Trade Integration and the Fragility of Trade Relationships,"
the latter co-authored with Juan Moreno-Cruz, an SOE faculty member.
Shatakshee Dhongde will present "Distributional Change, Pro-Poor Growth
and Convergence: An Application to Non-Income Dimensions." Joseph
Greene, a PhD student, will present "First Party Content in
Platform-Based Markets." Erik Johnson is presenting a paper co-authored
with Emily Galloway, an SOE PhD student, titled "Efficiency Changes and
Plant Learning from Environmental Regulation: Evidence from Fossil Fuel
Electricity Generators." Emily is also presenting her paper "The Impact
of Market Power in the Product Market on Cap-and-Trade Prices: Evidence
from RECLAIM in Southern California." Byung-Cheol Kim is presenting
"Less Bang for the Buck? A Natural Experiment in NIH Funding." Levent
Kutlu is presenting two papers as well, "Public School District
Inefficiency: Endogenous Cost Frontier Analysis with Panel Data" and
"Measuring Market Power When Firms Price Discriminate." Juan Moreno-Cruz
and Erik Johnson will present their joint paper "The Environmental
Effects of Electricity Congestion." Jiayao Ni will present "Dynamics of
Patenting and Competition in the Automobile Industry" co-authored with
Vivek Ghosal, an SOE professor. Matthew Oliver is presenting two papers
"Option Values and Willingness to Contract Expanded Natural Gas Pipeline
Capacity" and "Economies of Scale and Scope in Expansion of the U.S.
Natural Gas Pipeline Network." Olga Shemyakina is presenting her paper
"Armed Conflict and the Elderly."
