Campus, Atlanta Offer Options for Celebrating Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and Georgia Tech will be closed Nov. 27–28 to observe the holiday. 

With Thanksgiving comes the chance to enjoy the start of the holiday season. Though the majority of the campus community will be absent during the break, there are still many activities to do in Atlanta for those who will be on or near campus.

Wednesday, Nov. 19, through the New Year
  • Skate Atlantic Station
    When: 3 – 10 p.m.
    Where: District Street between 17 1/2 and 18th Streets, Atlantic Station
    What: Enjoy ice skating in Atlantic Station for $13.
Saturday, Nov. 22
  • Tree Lighting at Atlantic Station
    When: 7:30 p.m.
    Where: Atlantic Station
    What: A holiday parade begins with Santa arriving to light the Christmas tree.
  • Holiday Craft Fair
    When: Nov. 22–23, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
    Where: Georgia Freight Depot
    What: Shop from local crafters, artists, and food vendors in this two-day Ice Holiday Shopping Spectacular.
Beginning Saturday, Nov. 22, and continuing through the New Year 
Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 25, through Sunday, Nov. 30 
  • Africa Umoja – The Spirit of Togetherness
    When: 7 p.m.
    Where: Rialto Center for the Arts
    What: South Africa’s brightest young performers celebrate their talent, energy, dances, and music in this internationally acclaimed performance.
  • Dirty Dancing
    When: 7:30 p.m.
    Where: Fox Theater
    What: The classic story of Dirty Dancing hits the stage.
Thursday, Nov. 27 
  • Thanksgiving Dinner
    When: 2 p.m.
    Where: Georgia Tech Catholic Center, 172 4th St NW, Atlanta, GA 30313
    What: Come enjoy a free Thanksgiving Feast for our students on campus. This event is open to everyone, from all faith backgrounds.
Saturday, Nov. 29 
  • Women’s Basketball Holiday Tournament
    When: 2 – 4 p.m.
    Where: McCamish Pavillion
    What: Come out and support the Yellow Jackets in the Georgia Tech Holiday Tournament, with teams from Lipscomb, Harvard, and LA Tech.
