In celebration of International Education (IEW), Global Jackets, a multicultural student organization, hosted two events for IEW: International Coffee Hour and Ritmo Latino.

Global Jackets co-hosts an International Coffee Hour each month with the Office of International Education. For International Education Week, Global Jackets and OIE teamed up with the Brazilian Student Association (BRASA) for a special Coffee Hour which featured Brazilian food, a Capoeira performance and a Jujitsu demonstration. Over a hundred international and domestic students turned out for a night of Brazilian culture. Leo Farconi, the President of BRASA, was very happy with the event.  "I never thought that bringing our culture to Georgia Tech would be so exciting” said Leo. “It was amazing to watch the performers, to dance with them and to talk and laugh with friends while having Brazilian food. Thanks OIE and Global Jackets for this opportunity!"

The following evening, Global Jackets hosted Ritmo Latino (Latin Rhythm). The event was co-hosted by GA Tech’s Salsa Club. Students in attendance had the opportunity to watch a salsa performance and got lessons. Diane Lai, the President of Global Jackets, was hesitant to dance at first, but after the lesson, she expressed that she had a great time.  “I'm a terrible dancer, but I could not resist taking advantage of free salsa lessons from GT Salsa! I definitely had my fair share of bonding with other dance novices who were also there to try something new.”

Diane encourages the entire Georgia Tech community to engage in IEW events, not just those hosted by Global Jackets. “I think IEW is a great opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to partake in activities and experience things that they have never experienced before. With all of the events happening throughout the week, it is impossible not to drop in for an activity or two.”
