Many faculty earned immortality on campus this week as their names were emblazoned onto a new commemorative wall on the fourth floor of the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons.

The Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) Teaching Wall bears the names of faculty members who have been honored with Teaching Excellence Awards going back to the 1960s.

"Great teachers are immortal," said Rafael Bras, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. "They live on through the students that they inspire, who, in turn, go on to inspire others. The wall will forever be a tangible reminder of their greatness and the timeless service they have rendered to Georgia Tech."

The wall was several years in the making and a personal passion for Donna Llewellyn, associate vice provost for learning excellence and director of CETL, who thanked the group of faculty members honored on the wall at its dedication Tuesday.

"Thank you for the dedication, passion, and hard work that goes into teaching our students, and for caring that they learn," she said.

Geoffrey Eichholz, who joined the Tech faculty in 1963, also made remarks at the event. In 2003, he contacted then-President Wayne Clough to set up an award fund for faculty who make teaching a priority. The Geoffrey G. Eichholz Faculty Teaching Award has been awarded since 2006.
