The National Center for Transportation Systems Productivity and Management at Georgia Tech and the Georgia Tech School of Civil and Environmental Engineering are pleased to welcome Representative Jay Roberts and Senator Steve Gooch, Co-Chairs of the Joint Study Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Funding.

 

Senator Steeve Gooch and Representative Jay Roberts will address transportation needs specific to the State of Georgia and current efforts towards reform. The two state legislators are currently Co-Chairs of the Joint Study Committee on Critical Transportation Infrastructure Funding. The Committee has met several times since the 2014 legislative session to address new sources and methods of funding transportation projects to keep up with the needs of the state's population. The Chairmen will provide an update on the Committee's work and address the critical need for transportation solutions to support Georgia's economic competitiveness.

About the speakers

Representative Jay Roberts is the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee and represents the 154th district. Born and raised in Irwin County, Representative Jay Roberts attended ABAC for 2 years before graduating from Valdosta State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. He played baseball at both schools. He and his wife, Sarah, have 2 children, Justin and Jana. Serving since 2003 in the Georgia State House of Representatives, Representative Roberts serves on several legislative committees in addition to his appointment as Chairman of the House Transportation Committee.

 

Senator Steve Gooch was elected to the Georgia State Senate in 2010 and represents the 51st District. He serves as the Secretary of the Majority Caucus in the Georgia State Senate and as Chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee. Senator Gooch graduated from North Georgia College and State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. Senator Gooch and his wife Shannon have three children: Samuel, Seth and Sawyer.
