Full Summary:

As part of International Education Week, the Office of International Education invites you to participate in

ACIREMA: An Intercultural Simulation. The ACIREMA simulation will take place on Tuesday, November 18th from 10am to 12noon in the Piedmont Room of the Student Center. Lunch is provided. RSVP required. What is ACIREMA?
ACIREMA is interactive simulation game designed to give participants a glimpse into the journey that international students undertake in coming to study in the United States. As citizens of the country of Acirema, your objective is to complete the necessary requirements to travel to the United States in order to begin your degree program at Georgia Tech. We won’t tell you anything more for now, that would spoil the fun!
Who should participate in ACIREMA?
Anybody who has contact with international students, faculty or people in general. That’s everybody at Georgia Tech. OIE has run the simulation several times over the past 3 years to academic staff, administrative departments, FASET leaders, and students.
What’s the value of ACIREMA?
Rather than take OIE’s word for it, here are testimonials from 2 members of the Registrar’s office who participated in Acirema last year: “The impact of having international students on campus has significant benefits. It's one of the factors that attracted me to work at Georgia Tech. However, I had limited knowledge of the confusing and at times rigorous process. The ACIREMA simulation brought to light the many hurdles that our International Students face throughout the application and immigration process. Thanks for the invite, OIE.“ Lou Ocasio "Getting a passport, obtaining a visa, securing loans, exchanging currency, arranging travel - wait - I haven't even applied to the institute yet!? It was a farce, to be sure, but the anxiety was real. ACIREMA opens your eyes to the unique challenges that international students face like no presentation can." Jesse Parrish
Sounds great. How do I participate? OIE is running ACIREMA as a featured event of International Education Week (IEW). Find out more about IEW at Georgia Tech here. ACIREMA will take place Tuesday, November 18th from 10am to 12noon in the Student Center Piedmont Room. We are requiring reservations, so that we can order lunch for all participants. RSVP here.
