The Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD) was able to issue an update to a Clery Act Safety Alert Tuesday after the Atlanta Police Department arrested a suspect related to the incident.

A student reported that while walking north on West Peachtree Street toward Biltmore Place, she was approached by four suspects on foot. One suspect removed the victim’s backpack from her back and another removed a cell phone from the victim’s pocket. The suspects were last seen running west on Biltmore Place. No injuries were reported.

One suspect was later arrested near Turner Field. The suspect was driving a stolen vehicle and possessed the victim’s cell phone.

“This arrest is a result of our great collaboration with the Atlanta Police Department,” said Rob Connolly, interim chief of the Georgia Tech Police Department. “Working together around the city is the best way to protect our campus community.” Police will continue to investigate the incident and seek the remaining suspects.

Police remind students to be vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity they see on or near campus. GTPD can be reached at 404-894-2500. Crime tips can also be submitted through the free Rave Guardian app or at crimetips@police.gatech.edu.
