Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra Season Opener Features Peter Ciaschini, Violin

Joined by Peter Ciaschini, Concertmaster of the Atlanta Opera, the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra is presenting their first concert this season, "Romantic Masters," at the Ferst Center for the Arts on November 4.

Under the baton of Chaowen Ting, the newly appointed Director of Orchestral Studies, the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra will perform First Violin Concerto by Max Bruch with Ciaschini on violin solo; Georges Bizet's L'Arlesienne Suite No.1, and Symphony No.5 by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. The Tchaikovsky work will be accompanied by a lignting design created by students from the Georgia Tech Center of Music Technology. The concert starts at 7:30 pm and is free and open to the public.

Ciaschini has appeared as orchestral soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician in performances across the country.  He was the First Violinist and founding member of the Exeter Quartet, and for 15 seasons he was Concertmaster of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra.   He is Concertmaster of the Atlanta Opera and a member of the Santa Fe Opera orchestra.  Locally, he has collaborated with members of the Atlanta Symphony on many chamber music and chamber orchestra projects; he is an active participant in the Atlanta freelance community.

Ting is winner of the 2009 International Conductors' Workshop and Competition in Macon, Georgia, and was appointed as the conducting fellow of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and assistant conductor of the Eastman Philharmonia in September 2012. Previous positions she held include conductor and music director of the Cincinnati Sinfonietta, conductor of the Mercer/Macon Symphony Youth Orchestra, and apprentice conductor of the Macon Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her symphonic repertoire, Ting also shares a passion for opera. For two consecutive years, opera productions she directed received honors from National Opera Association's Opera Production Competitions. A native of Taiwan, Ting received her Masters of Music in instrumental conducting and piano performance from Mercer University and Masters of Music in orchestral conducting from the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. She just completed her doctoral degree under the tutelage of Professor Neil Varon at the Eastman School of Music.

Georgia Tech Chamber Strings, a newly founded string orchestra led by Ciaschini will also join the program performing works by Antonio Vivaldi, J. S. Bach, and Jack Jarrett.
