Ougazzaden Receives City of Metz Honor

Abdallah Ougazzaden has been awarded the Medal of the City of Metz, located in the Lorraine region of France. He was presented with this honor on September 16, 2014 at the Metz City Council by Mayor Dominique Gros.

The presentation of the medal was preceded by a speech highlighting Ougazzaden’s contributions to the City of Metz. He was praised for the visibility that his work in optoelectronics, materials, and device design has brought to the city and for his role in creating the Georgia Tech-CNRS UMI Lab, which is focused on research in non-linear optics and dynamics, smart materials, and computer science.

Ougazzaden was also recognized for his 17 years of industrial experience that has helped to attract industrial partners to the city such as the Open Lab with Peugeot PSA, and his leadership in the creation of Institut Lafayette and as the director of Georgia Tech-Lorraine.

Ougazzaden joined the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) faculty in 2005 and was appointed director of Georgia Tech-Lorraine in 2010.
